Ice Lanterns

posted on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 by Kelly

Celebrations of all kinds are happening around us.  A magical way to celebrate the holidays is illuminating ice lanterns!

Ice Lanterns are an easy project that is fun to put together.

First you need to gather branches, berries, pine, moss, leaves or anything found in nature.

You need a container that holds water and can freeze without breaking.  Here are some examples…File 263

Orange juice, milk cartons, milk or water jugs with the tops cut off also work well. You need a smaller container (a can works nicely) that fits inside of the larger one.  Add rocks to weigh the smaller container down.File 257

Next fill the container with water.File 258

Place the collected bits from nature into the water surrounding the can.File 260

After you are finished place the container in your freezer (or outside if it is cold enough).  It takes about 24hrs to freeze.  File 261

Run the container under hot water to release the ice. Place a candle in the cente then put the lantern outside and enjoy!!File 262

Peace and light and treasured moments with those we love!

Happy Holidays from everyone at Calgo Gardens!
